Ayrton's Toleman
Discussion
Not sure however i read the other day that the car is exactly how it was at the end of the Monaco GP with the exception of the seat.
Assuming that the chassis was used after Monaco, which i assume it was, i'm not sure how it can be 'as raced at Monaco by Senna' etc etc etc.
It was at the Goodwood FoS last year & it looked almost brand new so i guess it has recently been restored - i wonder how much of the original car does actually remain in situ?
Not withstanding that it's a race car i would love to own although that, sadly, will never happen.

Go to Autosport.com. Go to the forums. Click on The Nostalgia Forum. Find the thread on Senna's Toleman.Assuming that the chassis was used after Monaco, which i assume it was, i'm not sure how it can be 'as raced at Monaco by Senna' etc etc etc.

It's a very interesting story of one car (definitely Senna's, 100% provenance) and another with a (seemingly) hooky chassis plate.
A very, very interesting read.

There's some people with serious knowledge on there isn't there!? Very interesting read though, I wonder which car was on display at the Autosport show then this year in the Senna tribute area? It's a very interesting story of one car (definitely Senna's, 100% provenance) and another with a (seemingly) hooky chassis plate.

Which chassis was at the Goodwood FoS last year because from my photo's it clearly stated that the chassis was the Monaco GP chassis.
I got the impression that Lorina McLoughlin owned it as well as the Benetton she drives. Obviously i was wrong on that one!!!
Havent read the autosport forum stuff yet though.

That Autosport thread is intriguing, although TBH I got bored after 3.5 pages... It's so nice to see forumites disagreeing without resorting to insults, calls of 'troll' or flouncing off!
As one or two people mention in there it's amazing that the fact that Senna drove the car in one particular race, that he didn't even win, makes an otherwise unremarkable car so valuable. Crazy.

Indeed. I think that the rollhoops and the chassis plates confirm it though. As one or two people mention in there it's amazing that the fact that Senna drove the car in one particular race, that he didn't even win, makes an otherwise unremarkable car so valuable. Crazy.
If it's the consortium car (iirc) it's the real one that they bought from the person who bought it from Johansson. The Mason car seems to have arrived in bits and had "chassis 2" written on the inside of a bit of bodywork and then it "became" chassis 2. It's a couple of weeks since I read that thread, but it looks like chassis 3 is a more likely identity, unless someone did a mega repair job on the dead chassis 4...
Who knows.

I reckon the chassis plate from NM's car was stolen purely because it was so unconvincing, although who would want to hide its real identity I don't know.
Suprisingly it looks to me as though Mason was sold a ringer.
But there is a Toleman mechanic who has the "chassis 3" plate in his toolbox.Suprisingly it looks to me as though Mason was sold a ringer.
It's a very odd tale, not helped by the one that isn't to be seen in South America...
The chassis plate that was on it before it was nicked was definitely wrong. It was nothing like the others.
Anyway, apparently Mason wants an appraisal of the car's history...it'll bring the paper value back from £500K to around £75K I'd have thought.
There was an ex-Teo Fabi Toleman/Bennetton that went for £25K not long ago...that was very cheap.
