Cayman team claiming there is/was oil on the track.
Given the fact that he wasn't even on the track prior to whacking the damaged barrier, I'm having a tough time believing that biggrin He had one hell of a lot of speed on.

They are just interviewing the BMW driver on race comms now, and he says he crashed on oil there, and it was only a single yellow flag when the Cayman also lost it on the same oil moments later.

Meanwhile, it's not looking any clearer for a restart now.

There were clearly double waved yellows before the Cayman crashed

Commentary team completely missing the reason for cars pitting now

Double waved at the scene of the crash, but that's blind from the turn in point, and the previous marshal post at the crest of QH was only a single, so you could still come over the crest and turn in with significant speed before seeing the double yellow.

Very unfortunate and put every race strategy in the garbage bin.

You'd be gutted if you paid 50k for a seat this weekend!

He articulated very well that sense of horror sitting there, stuck in the car with the door missing, knowing there was oil on the track and that it was only a matter of time until another car hit the same oil.

That's the gamble you take, your car could easily be taken out on the first lap in a crash and you get to go home 23.5 hours early.

Agreed across the board.

Endurance racing commentary is typically poor apart from Ant Davidson.

Frustratingly, John Hindhoff who owns RSL is the worst of his own bunch. Talking about himself from 20 years ago when there is meaningful track action.
Worse: he’s so fat, he’s perpetually out of breath gasping for air into the mic.

More than once the guests they were interviewing had to point out that something was happening in the race. Still better than Croft though.

Re Commentary team

Radio le Mans are a breath of fresh air...I can remember the time when there was no race coverage, or commentary.....Radio Le Mans came in on FM radio round Le Mans and were streets ahead of anything before.....Try out the English Commentary on the WEC it is truly awful......but even that is way better than the idiot babble on F1 on Chanel 4.....

It’s an interesting point you raise.

Manufacturers spend 100s of millions on WEC, IGTC, Spa24 hours … but the access for fans is truly dreadful.

Bad TV coverage, poor radio on site (coverage around LeMans track is usually shaky at best), terrible graphics.

You’d think the manufacturers would come together and chip in to pay for something proper; Ant Davidson, Alex Brundle, Narain Kartekayan (I butchered his name, sorry).

Compare to IndyCar; level of engineering way lower, costs lower (apart from drivers) but amazing TV coverage.

I suspect you mean Karun Chandhok.

What is good/bad about the Radio Le Mans style of commentary is what it isn't just describing what is on the screen (which is what you need for a sprint race) but general chat and updates.

For Le Mans they have someone like Paul Truswell who is watching the lap charts like a hawk and can point out any meaningful changes on track.

I like the Radio LeMans type commentary. It’s a bit like test match special in the old days. Perhaps we all need to send them a cake laugh

He certainly described it well must have been horrible sitting there arms crossed waiting for impact …

Shame the race ended the way it did glad I got to see some amazing driving as it went from dusk to dark it’s an amazing thing to watch the onboard film nothing else quite like it makes Le Mans look easy!
