We had a similar situation on a BTCC meeting I marshalled a few years back; crisp morning but racing was delayed until 11.30am(!) due to the fog despite there being sunshine. Paddock Hill into Druids was completely covered to the point you couldn’t even see the light boxes flashing - let alone flags.

Hoping it won’t be a similar situation here!

Next update 10:30, there will be a 10 minute warning of the restart.

That’s coming up on 11 hours since the red flags came out. It appears that the area around the GP circuit is most affected by the fog at the moment, according to race control. Two issues preventing the restart, visibility between marshal posts, and the medical helicopter needs to be able to fly.

Edit: the 10:30 update is “Next information 11:00”

I’m enjoying the shots of campers with the Sunday morning of a 24 hour race look on their faces.
There’ll be a fair few of us with that bleary disoriented look in 2 weeks time, hopefully with less fog and mud

…and with cars going around the track!

Next update 11:30 now, so that’s going to be at least 12 hours of stoppage.

Feel sorry for anyone made all the effort to camp and then no night racing, not even any morning racing .

I’d be massively annoyed if I’d paid to watch this farce!

At least the Classic race yesterday was worth watching.

Farce?

It's weather, weather happens a lot at the nurburgring.

If you are not aware of that before embarking on organising a trip to this race, you are a moron.

I suppose that’s the risk with the Nürburgring but I would be so disappointed if I had travelled to see the race.

They will just party. To be fair most are probably shattered after 6 nights of partying. It also gives them time to pack up as they all leave on the Sunday.

I was lucky to attend a couple of years ago (the race that I believe broke the record for most hours of running) and after the race we hit up some of the bars in Nürburg, then some drunk karting and e-sim racing by the time we got back to the campsite we were the only ones left. By Monday morning all the rock am ring crowd started filling the spaces rofl

I wonder at what point do they call it, weather has not got any better in the last 3 hours, there's only 4 and a bit to go until the end of the race.

If the sun didn't burn it off now and the wind hasn't blown it away by now I can't see it suddenly changing.

The fog looks worse now than it did a couple of hours ago.

Safety car is having a go around though, so perhaps they are starting to think about a restart time.

Edit: Nope. Next information 13:00

Hornung (the race director) said in an interview on the German stream that they might have a chance to start around 2-2:15 pm local time.

Start line visibility - 10 car lengths or so? Not too sure you can see flags being waved in these conditions, nor that the marshals can see each other.
