A/C Compressor Bracket
Discussion
When I bought my 86 280i, it came with all the a/c parts - except the compressor bracket - in a box. Living in Texas, I have been wanting to reinstall my A/c.
A great expense (mostly shipping!) I sourced a bracket from the UK but now find it for the lower left side of the engine (as seen from the driver's seat). Exactly were my air box is.
1) can someone confirm that the compressor should be mounted below the alternator (on the lower right side) and
2) could anyone send me a digital picture(s) of a compressor mounted showing the bracket; and
3) does anyone have a bracket to sell?
BTW - As near as I can tell, all of the US-ford applications (Mustang/Capri) mounted the compressor on the left side (low or high) but if anyone knows differently, it would be a great help.
Thanks Grady

I am not sure about the earlier 280I's, but the later US SII's from 86 on had the AC unit mounted on the upper right side (looking from the cockpit) next to the Alternator. They are both mounted on a common bracket with one smaller adjuster bracket for the Alternator. I have just disassembled my car to install a turbo techics turbo, but if you are willing to wait a few days I would be happy to put the units back in place to get you some pictures. At that time I can also collect some dimensions and supply an accurate detail drawing of the bracket if you need it (this would allow you to have one fabricated locally instead of paying the over inflated costs associated with buying from the UK). The bracket in question looks to be way overkill for what it's doing and could probably be made from aluminum (assuming you know a good welder). In the meantime I have some low res pictures of the bracket for reference (although I do not know how to attach them to this post). You can email me at tvrman@socal.rr.com if you need them.
