Possibly re-locating from UK to NY for 12 months. What are the options of taking the Tuscan with me? I've read many varying comments through the search function, but no clear definitive answer.

Any feedback much appreciated!

Very simple to do for just a 12 month period. Will have to apply, but your shipper/customs broker should be able to do 99% of this for you.

http://www.nhtsa.gov/cars/rules/import/TempInfo.ht...

MAKE SURE that you dont exceed the maximum 12 month time frame allowed. It will hurt your wallet with large fines and potential confiscation of your car.

RJ you still didnt give him the full info,he still has to deal with EPA.he needs a letter of approval from epa and mark code O on the epa 3520 form, that letter of approval has to go with the 3520 on when filing entry with customs

Celm, read my post. I advised his shipping broker can handle this for him.

The EPA request is easy enough and STATED his shipper can assist prior to leaving port

For the Op read section 2 for EPA guidelines http://www.epa.gov/oms/imports/factmnb.htm

I wouldn't subject a TVR to the roads around NYC if that is where you are relocating. I'll offer my services storing it out in the country just a 3 hour train ride away visiting it. I promise to only put on 5k in that year. Seriously, depending on where you're going in NY I'd be leary unless you just plan on using it on a limited basis. The other concern I'd have would be getting insurance on it. Not sure how that would work or if your own policy would be acceptable to NY.

on the subject of insurance , that was the biggest problem that I had when I took my Corvette to the states for three months.I had no luck arranging insurance with my own company over here or with any of the specialist brokers.
The shippers put me touch with an insurance broker in New York but the premium was over £700, for the three months.
It may be slightly easier for you as you I presume you will have a US address which I did not have ,as I was touring round. One odd thing was the insurance company requirement that I had valid british road tax while the car was in the US.

As a visitor to the U.S it really is straightforward to get the car there and back. A few TVRs have come over the pond so it would be interesting to know how they solved the insurance issue for a temporary stay. Anyone?

Would it not be the same as taking a car to France ?
Extended cover on ones existing policy.

I very much hope so. I have only read comments that people have had difficulty getting it covered on the US side. We plan on taking a car over to Florida in March for an event. The car will be in town for a month and I'd like to drive it about rather than take it over on Show & Display only.

A few have taken their cars over as visitor so there's obviously a way. Saying that, of those that have gone I recall one was in the Gumball and one was under their company insuranc. Hopefully there's someone who will be willing to issue a policy.

After a little research it seems Grundy Worldwide are able to take care of the insurance issue. It appears they have done so for quite a few cars from the UK before.
