It looks like TVR's profile in North America is to rise and that's already been reflected in the number of emails I receive and the odd posting here. So here's a dedicated forum for NA issues. Don't forget the North American Car Club can be found at http://www.tvrna.com

Cheers Ted, somewhere for me to blab about how one day I'll get round to importing a Griff (post-'93) into New York. BTW - just re-read the NY Times article which suggested a $55K price on the Tamora (US equivalent of UK price). A loaded Boxster S costs $56K and you can't go anywhere in the NE of the States without seeing a silver boxster on the roads. Maybe, (insert huge leap of faith) if PW can ship a reasonably reliable product at sub $60K, TVR could ship a decent number of units in the US. We live in hope....

Link to a related article from the NY Times that references the Tucans being used in the Swordfish flick: http://www.nytimes.com/2001/02/23/automobiles/23FILM.html

Faisal is yer man on this one (not sure how often he checks the board though). Bottom line - can be imported (form HS7 if memory serves - probably difficult to sell on (not sure if a US-passport holder is allowed to own an import such as this) How long are you coming over for? Might be better to wait & see if TVR ever start selling in the US & buy a 'kosher' one.

Don't check it very often...perhaps I should! Anyways, yes, what nationality are you and what visa are you coming over on, for starters?

Whilst in Canada for a holiday in Feb last, being the anorak that I am I looked up TVR in the hotel yellow pages and there seemed to be a dealership in the Toronto area?

I saw Swordfish and was motivated to call the factory. They seemed to leave me with a 50/50 feeling that TVR would make a return to North America. I've got my fingers crossed...

50/50 Eh? The US 'Lemon' laws nearly put TVR out of business in 1984 so I doubt if any Blackpool-made cars will be offered to the US market. The rumoured Brazilian venture still seems the only legal way you'll get your hands on a new TVR. The dealer in Toronto was John Wadman, but TVR stopped supplying him with cars about 5 years ago. He did supply a couple of Griffs and S models which occasionally cross into the US for car shows.

Re: Travolta's Tuscan. He's keeping it. He drove it to the premeire, and was showing it off (along with the rest of his car collection) on an MTV Cribs television show. KMR

If Travolta was a sport, he'd let the US Automotive media test drive the Tuscan! Give them something else to write about besides Mustang vs Camaro and Porsche vs Corvette!

No inside info on this one, but don't hold your breath. Tweaking for US regulations is going to take many months and what with the race programs (Cerbera Speed 12, Tuscan Rs and Tuscan V8s) and Tamora etc, I suspect the key individuals required to do much of the work have their hands pretty full at the moment.

In recent times, TVR have always taken orders for cars that have been delivered some two years later. So, pay a TVR dealer your $5000 deposit in six months time and you'll see your car sometime in 2003.

I do hope you American TVR fans get what you want....but remember its a TVR you're getting. DON'T expect nothing to go wrong. If you do...buy a Chevy. There again if you can find a few roads with corners on them...ENJOY! (Brit who used to live in the US)

I wholeheartedly welcome TVR to the US. What I have read in EVO doesn't address issues such as getting in and out of the car for example. I struggled to get into a Lotus Elise--if getting into a TVR is like getting into a Lotus Elise, TVR will have a lot of problems. So, can anyone out there tell me what it is like to live with a Tuscan everyday?
it's just like to be in heaven!!!!

You need to be a contortionist to get into an Elise (combination of very wide sill and low, low roof). No worries with a Tuscan though, just kinda drop in... Graham
