I believe that '83 was the first year TVR imported Tasmins into the US. I am looking for somebody that could sell me a title to an '83 Tasmin or earlier if such exists. Condition of vehicle does not matter. Either a wreck, basket case or project would be fine. Any leads would also be appreciated. Reason for this strange request? '83 and older vehicles are exempt from emissions in MA!

Yes, I saw it. It's an '85 though. I am looking for an '83 or older if there were any here in the US.

Yes, about 38-40 1983 Tasmins were imported to the US
in the first year. Mine is one of them but no where
near being in the condition to part out or sell the
title to. You might also find something earlier as
81-82 model year Tasmins were sent to Canada.
Contact me at tasmin83@home.com and I may be able
to provide a lead or two....

what is your consern w/ emissions? is this your worry after the swap, or w/ your current motor? what i would do is i would get it inspected and let it fail, you have 60 days to fix it and drive it like that. b/c this year you will have to pass those wonderful emissions we have here in MA. but in 03 you wont have to all it will be is safty. so next spring get it inspected for safty, then in dec of 03 get it inspected again for safty and that will carry you over through out the year of 04 and there for you will by pass that wretched emission process. or you could also just go w/o a sticker only a $35 fine, just remember no sticker is better than an expired one, it wont stand out like a soar thumb.
take care

Not quite right. No sticker or expired sticker is a $50 fine plus 3 points on your insurance, applicable to the most expensive car on the road for three years; i.e. $$$!!! Also, don't know if it's true or not, but I was told that if you had failed emissions in the year your car was due for the emissions test, you cannot get another inspection sticker the year after without first fixing the emissions problem. In addition, if your car does not have an inspection sticker and you go to have it inspected the year the car is not due for emissions test, you still have to pass the test. From what I understand, they don't let you off the hook, . If what I've been told is not true, I'd love to hear/read about it. In the meantime, I am still looking for an '83 or older.

Yes, I saw it. Looks like a nice car. After much discussion with other folks knowledgeable in TVR's and much thinking I've decided to do the right thing and leave the car unaltered. I will instead concentrate on having a new cat fabricated for the car (working on a source and am pretty confident I found one) and get whatever else it needs to pass the emissions test. After that I will replace whatever is worn out and take care off all the other little things that need attention. Then I will just enjoy driving the car instead of working on it. If I feel the urge to work on a project, I will buy a kit car. Lots of awesome kits out there these days...
