What would it take?

to bring a UK spec Chim 500 to the states? After reading several of the threads about a formal TVR arrangement and safety regs etc, I'm left confused as to the rules. Can someone export their Chim (or other TVR) to the states or does it still have to meet all of the airbag rules etc? If anyone can spread a bit of light on the matter, I'd appreciate it.
