I am looking into buying a 280i, but as I have never owned a TVR before I looking for advice. I found an '86 on ebay and it is in my price range-buy it no for $1800-but it needs a good deal of work. Now for my main question, approximately what would it cost me to have the roof refurbished-there isn't much left but the structure itself. I have beeen a fan of TVR for a long time and I really want to own one-so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The 86 280i you mentioned on eBay was the victim of a hurricane in Florida. Believe me, unless you are looking for a spare parts car, this is not where you want to start.
I just purchased a very nice 87 280i with only 10,600 original miles on it for a very fair price. There are others out there.
If you want to know where to look, e-mail me and I'll point you in the right direction.

I've just had a new soft top.
$1,100 !!!!!!
That included covering the removable top, a small peice of carpet for the area behind the seats (which I supplied )and re glueing the soundproofing in the trunk.
It did not include new trim round the top to seal windows and top, which pissed me off a bit, but I was able to source that easily.

I would say it's cheaper to buy a "better car"
