Engine Year ?

I have a 1985 280i and im looking for parts, can anyone tell me how I can find out what year the engine is ~ am I right in asking for parts for a Mercury Capri ?
The vin/ chasis numer is TVR 9RFZ 8P5F BDH 1061 and engine number 1449-29.
I would appreciate any feedback

Here some basic info: the 2.8 engine was used in the Ford Mustang II, the Mercury Bobcat, the Pinto and the Capri. An updated version was used in the Ford Ranger up to 1984. These engines were all carb engines. Only the internals are the same as a 280i. I've owned a parts store for over thirty years and I would be happy to supply you with part numbers or parts if you wish. I have a 1985 280i. Don't waste your time with big box stores like Auto Zone. If it's not in their computer they haven't got a clue. Also, join the TVR Club NA if you haven't already. You will never find a better bunch of guys and gals who will gladly help you. Contact Marshall Moore the president. He recently purchased a TVR parts business. He owned a stunning red 280i and knows the car inside and out. His posts are all over this site.
