[darn it I for got the heading]

So I was just reviewing the fine print in the last evo and apparently the Dutch super car company Spyker has obtained waivers from the NHTSA to sell their cars here!

This could be interesting for TVR now that they have billionaire backing them up. I don't recall off hand what engine is in the Spyker, maybe it's from Audi or something. This also applies to crash testing and hundreds of other redundant rules we have here (I heard Click and Clack saying today (rerun) that doors have to open with a certain level of effort!).

Lotus has traditionally filed for a few minor waivers but I wonder what Spyker has done. If anyone has the time, you should be able to find what they did on the U.S. Federal Register document which is in html and pdf.

Here are the links to Spykers request. I hope the links work.

And here is the permission granted.

It sounds as if it was nothing too major although the cars WILL NOT HAVE AIRBAGS initially as it reads. Which is okay. They used an economic arguement to get through in part. Unfortuantly, there is no waiver for the engine so it will be compliant. I also imagine that a handfull of cars will be crash tested.
