I'm running a (very) standard Essex 3.0 with a Webber 40 DFAV on the top. The car goes pretty well under acceleration (gentle or hard) but cruising at a constant throttle opening (e.g. running at a constant speed on a motorway) the motor doesn't sound entirely happy - not exactly missing but just not running cleanly. I'm wondering if it's down to partially blocked jets. Trouble is I don't know which of th 235 jets it's likely to be, how to check or how to rectify.

I have not yet taken a plug out to check colour (laziness I'm afraid!)

Apart from "buy a new one" does anyone have any ideas?

I always thought the 40 DFAV was supposed to be too rich for a standard essex and that you should stick to the 38DGAS.

Having said that a good site is http://www.redlineweber.com/html/Tech/Table_of_con...

Your best bet would be to get a service kit, strip the carb down (making note of where the jets go), give it a good clean (the dishwasher is good for this but not always popular with the other half frown ) and then blow all the holes and jets through. This is what I did to my 38DGAS and it made a big difference.

Hi Phil,

There is a Weber Agent (along with rolling road) up at Newington near Sittingbourne. I took the Vixen up there last summer just for a set up. For a few quid he will do the Jetting, Set up and general diagnosis (if you have problems).

The name of the place is B.D.Engineering.

If you have no luck youself then he could be worth a call.

Rgds,

Darren.
