I'm having a few random problems with ignition and so though while I was looking into it I'd get rid of the points.

So Luminition, Aldon or something else?

Any advice would be great, the car is fairly standard 1600 crossflow, with the original 32/36 dgv carb.

Cheers
Rob

I HAVE FITTED ALOT OF THE OPTICAL LUMENITION, FOUND THEM EXCELLANT.
MAKE SURE YOU SUPPORT THE WEE PLUG/SOCKET ASSY NEAR DIZZY & KEEP IT CLEAN.
I DO NOT RATE THE SYSTEM WITH SEVERAL MAGNETS, WHICH SEEM TO MAKE A BID FOR FREEDOM IF YOU ARE LUCKY THEY STICK TO BASEPLATE OF DIZZY !!
REGARDS IAN!

Hi there, also got 1600M and had similar problems.
Decided to go for full Bestek system from fleabay.
This is brilliant comes with new bosch dizzy, cap, rotor arm, coil, and electronic module.
Absolute dogs danglers.
£135 inc postage at moment (special offer).
However I would recommend new ign leads as when I fitted mine there was sparks everywhere until I changed leads.
Does anyone know if front coil springs are same as TR6 ?

I would very much doubt it as the front weight of a TR6 will be totally different to your 1600M. Best places to get springs/shocks are Adrian Venn, Steve Reid or DG

Steve is a semi retired doctor who doesn't like selling TVR's to peoplehehe

On a serious note which type of distributor do you have? If it says motorcraft and not Lucas you would be best served throwing it away and fitting a lucas dizzy. Putting lumention onto a motorcraft distributor is akin to polishing a turd.

I am aware of turd polishing and, dispite a habit for buying rust cars, I tend to try and avoid this.

I'm looking at the Bestek option for £135 and the Aldon option is about £200

Can any else add a comment for the pros and cons?

Cheers

Hi Guys,
I use a Lumention system on my vixen and have had no probs at all. its easy to fit and set up and gives good results, prices are very reasonable too.
You can buy them direct from autocar electrical (Luton i think).
I have used them on older Range Rovers, Land Rovers, and early V6`s, no problems or failures at all.
Have used others, I don`t care to mention, which have failed too early in their life, and have had warranty probs with the suppliers.
Hope this helps
Roy

You could cut out all the wring, extra hardware and timing curve problems and try one of these http://www.123ignition.nl/id/22.html

Had a Lumenition kit in an Aldon modified Lucas dizzy on my '72 1600M for years, been sat there under the front DCOE carb making sparks without any probs, do cable-tie the plug to the chassis rail to prevent the thin dizzy cables from breaking. Geoff
