On stripping my Vixen I have found odd rear cylinders at the back. One is the usual .7" cylinder but the other is a 7/8ths (which I believe they fit to morgan 4/4s and some Sunbeam Alpines).

I have found a good US site (for a turbo TR6 no less) that goes into great detail about upgrading to 4 pot toyota calipers on a TR6 but also mentions that these 7/8 cylinders can produce a large improvement(over 50%) better braking at the back of a TR6!

Has anyone ever used these to upgrade the back brakes of a TVR? I have got another of these cylinders from a friend so could fit these as opposed to the original spec.

Does anyone know if they will improve things or whether they may be a bit too strong for such a light car as a vixen, perhaps causing the rear end to lock up too easily?

Cheers
Paul.

I would only upgrade the rear if you are uprating the front. Using 7/8" will only increase your chances of rear lock up in a vixen. I would upgrade only if you have switched to larger discs / 4 pot calipers at the front.
