HELLO RJAM !

I HAVE TWO PROBLEMS ON MY GRANTURA :

REAR WHEELS ARE TOUCHING THE REAR WHEEL ARCH WHEN CORNERING HARD AND RIGHT FRONT SUSPENSION IS QUITE STRANGE, WHEN I PASSED ON LITTLE HOLES ON THE ROAD IT MAKES A BIG NOISE. I WONDER IF THE TORSION BAR IS IN CAUSE.

OTHERWISE THE TVR IS IN SHOW CONDITION WHITH STAGE 3 MGB ENGINE.

SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH !!!

REGARDS.

Hi Benoitlan, I would have a look at your torsion bars, they made up of laminated strips, and one could be broken, if they are aright the ride height is adjustable, by the bolt in the middle of chassis tube, do you have a workshop manual it tells you how to do it in there.if I am wrong I am sure someone will correct me. If you have not got a manual email me.

HI RJAM,

YOU ARE PROBABLY RIGHT.
I LL HAVE A LOOK A THE TORSION BARS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
BUT IT DOESNT EXPLAIN WHY REAR WHEELS ARE TOUCHING WHEELS ARCHS WHEN CORNERING HARD.AND IT S STRANGE BECAUSE ALL THE BUSHES WERE REMPLACED.
CONCERNING THE WORKSHOP MANUAL, I HAVE THE "GRANTURA MK 1 2 2A WORKSHOP MANUAL COMPILED AND EDITED BY P.V.SIMPSON FOR THE TVR CAR CLUB"
THANKS A LOT.

BENOIT.

Benoit

I believe the torsion bars act as a spring, sway bar and ride height
adjustment. So if the torsion bars in the rear are "soft" or set too low,
this could cause the tire to rub.

Hi,

What wheels and tyres are fitted?
If the tyres are too wide, or the wheel offset incorrect this may cause the wheels to rub on the bodywork.
Also check the camber of the wheels, if incorrectly set this could also add to the problem.

Regards.

HELO,

5,5x15 wheels and 165X15 tyres are fitted. and clearance between tyres and the rear panel is about 5 centimeters.

Now I'm confused.

5cm clearance should be enough. My MkIIa has only 4 cm clearance, but I have no trouble with tyres rubbing on bodywork. Having said that my car is a track car and the suspension is rock-hard, and also has anti-roll bars fitted, so perhaps the suspension doesn't move enough to allow the problem to happen?

Also, you say you have 5.5x15 wheels fitted. The standard is 4.5x15. This may have some impact on the problem. Sorry I can't help more.

Is it possible for you to register your Grantura on my homepage http://people.zeelandnet.nl/serel ?

Do you still have the problem of the wheels rubbing the bodywork?

Kind regards,

Benoit,

In Sprint (the TVRCC Monthly) there is a list of people you can contact with questions relating to 'old' TVRs. All you'd need to do is get a TVRCC membership.
