My 1978 3000M is going to be re-painted, but it does require two new rear lights. These are the rectangular ones that don't curve round the side of the body. Are they obtainable and were from?

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong,,,

They're the same as a Reliant Scimitar SE5.

Try the Scimitar guys.

They are actually the same as the Scimitar SE5A, the SE5 is completely different. The only difference between my Scimitar SE5A and my TVR 3000S is that the surround on the Scimitar is black whereas the surround on the TVR is Chrome. They were also used on some Aston Martins.

They are pretty rare but if you don't have any luck with Adrian Venn, David Geralds or Steve Reid you could try www.grahamwalker.co.uk/ or www.townsontheweb.com/websites/qrg/qrg_scimitar.htm

Nigel

I'll think you'll find that it is black on most TVRs. A few years ago someone got hold of a batch of Chrome ones, and these started apperaing on cars.

Aston Martin also used the same assembly on the V8 cars 1970's/80's, but no doubt its not a cheap part from an Aston dealer!

Thanks, guys. One other problem is going to be the seals between the light fitting and the car body. Is there a product you can buy to make your own?
Also what are the front side lights off?

I'm a 'someone' now am I David?

Aston DBS and Jensen Healy used the chrome surrounds and Reliant & TVR used the black. One of my 'suppliers' tracked down a warehouse full of chrome ones in Malta and I obtained several sets. One set went on my car, I sold five sets to an Aston specialist and the rest went to needy Club members. We went on a family holiday to Florida on the profits!

Alas, I have none left now, except a pair of brand new black ones for a rainy day.

They are the Dolomite ones. Side repeaters are export MGB and Jaguar (1970s & 80s)

The lenses are available separately, you will need a full set as one stud will split on each lens... These and the rubbers should be available through Graham Walker, alternatively Holden Vintage and Classic may have some (but they can expensive).
Also, Lotus put black ones on the Elite and Eclat.

Oliver.

I have got the rear light lenses and gaskets and the light units are being repainted black. The front lenses are not too bad when cleaned so would it make sense to paint the front units black to match the rear or did the cars come out of the factory with black at the rear and chrome at the front?
