Carb for Vixen S2.
Discussion
When I first got my Vixen it was fitted with a pair of 40 DCOEs. Have recently been having starting and general fueling problems so decided I needed to get them overhauled. Best price I could get was £250 each for a full refurb. which is more than I really want to pay. I have therefore decided to fit a twin choke Weber and have sourced a suitable inlet manifold on e bay.I believe a 32 DFM was originally fitted and wonder if there is a modern alternative as I intend to buy new. Engine is a mildly tuned 1700 crossflow. Also, what sort of linkage will I need and where can I source one ? Hoping someone can help as I want to get back on the road as soon as possible.
The 32/36 DGV (or DGAV with automatic choke) should be okay for a mild tuned engine. I think it's a common replacement/upgrade before going to DCOE's. You can easily overhaul them yourself. They quite often appear on ebay although most have the automatic choke. Weber service kits are available and cost about £15. Manual choke conversion kits are available but you have to search hard. Its a good idea to avoid the ones with the fuel return too.

For the linkage, I managed to use the ford operating and arm bracket but had to modify it a bit and make up my own cable and return spring. Not sure if there is an easier way?

Hi Roger,
Not sure exactly, but can whip them out and take a look in the next few days. I bought the carb secondhand and was told it was Jetted for a 1600GT Crossflow. My engine is about 1660 after the rebore and seems to rev ok but admittedly, she hasn't left the garage yet (still rebuiding her) so may need re-jetting at a later date.
The plan is, if she runs like a bag of nails then I'll phone a Weber agents with the spec of the engine and see what Jet sizes they recommend. Or get her on a rolling road!
Hello.
the 32 DFM was originally fitted to the 1600gt mk 2 Cortina and found its way onto the original vixen S1 and S2's. the 32 DGV will fit onto the std 1600gt manifold but you will find yourself struggling for a manifold since the throttle linkages are different and pivot different ways to each other.
if you are using a DFM then you need an early 1600gt manifold. If you are planning to use a 32DGV then you will need a Mk 2 escort inlet manifold. This has a couple of threaded bosses on it to allow the use of the correct throttle linkage. best throttle cable to use is a mk3 / 4 Cortina and you use the correct end for the black bracket. the other end you can simply cut to the desired length and use a terminal connector to attach to the throttle pedal.
hope this gives you enough to go on. From memory some slight water union mods are required on the escort inlet manifold, but these are easily available from plumbers shops.
neil.

just looked at Rens pic and the set up is the same as I discussed in last post. I fitted a brand new 32 DGV to my Vixen S2 when i had it. I ended up looking at a few similar ford arms and brackets.
the carb can be bought jetted for 1600ohv, 1600OHC and 2.0 OHC from memory. The brackets and linkage arm were fitted to Mk2 escorts and mk3/4/5 cortinas. I found that a few tried gave a steep angle for the throttle cable. you definitely need a Mk 3/4 cortina cable though

Main Jet 150 155
Air Correction Jet 160 140
Emulsion Tube type F6 F6
Idling jet 50 45
Needle Valve 1.75mm
