I have a Vixen which i bought as a pile of bits and have various basic questions.

1. Are the hinges just nut and bolted to the body, or should i have a plate/load spreader behind the pillar. I was going to use penny washers.

2. Two of the hinges have tapped holes for i believe rubber pads, is this the case, if so where do i get new ones

lastly John Upham --- you star ---- your pictures etc on your site are a life saver

Hi,

when I sorted my hinges out, I found that the fibreglass was quite thin where the hinges bolt on to the pillar so I put another couple of layers of matting and resin behind where the bolts go through. There was nothing in place to spread the load on mine and I found that a large penny washer wouldn't fit behind the 2 outer holes due to the boxed recess where the hinge body fits. I just found some thick washers and filed a flat edge on them so they pulled up tight.

I was also a bit puzzled by the threaded holes, not sure if it is for a rubber stop or some form of check strap? I'd be interested to know too! At the moment, the only thing I have to limit the opening of the door is the metal strip bolted between the mounting holes. Don't know if this is how they left the factory?

Guys,
Dont know if your aware, the door hinges are and bonnet striker pins are off a Ford Anglia.

The tapped holes in the hinge are for mounting a bracket shaped hook. A pin is meant to be fitted top to bottom on the hinge, so when the door opens the bracket shaped hook stops the door opening any further by catching on the vertical pin.
