Lumenition on the Essex V6
Discussion
It took over 30 years to progress from teenage desire to official mid-life crisis accessory, but I now have a 1979 model TVR Taimar. I got lucky, it was the first car I looked at and had recently been nut 'n bolt restored by a chap who devoted 6 years of his life to the cause. (pic on my profile)
I am considering fitting a Lumenition electronic ignition kit. Is this as straightforward as it seems and is there any benefit in fitting the Performance kit (CEK 150) for road use rather than the standard one (PMA 50)? Any views?

As I recall, the Ford dizzy on the Essex was a bit marginal. Once it got a bit worn, it was prone to missfire at higher revs. I have no experience of the Lumenition on this engine, but in principle, converting to electronic ignition has got to be a good move. If nothing else, it saves all that fiddling about with dwell angles and engine timing. Just make sure there is not excessive side play on the shaft. I believe one of the Scimitar specialists was offering a replacement Bosch dizzy a few years back. Should be much better than the Ford if it's still available.

Congratulations on buying an 'M' series. They are great fun!
I use Lumenition in my 'M'. The only problem I had (8 years ago) was with the connector that joined the part in the dist. with the control unit. This is now soldered, and has worked perfectly ever since. I use the 'standard' one with a with the original coil.
