Grantura chassis
Discussion
Hi all , I’m in the uk and understand there is companies that can supply new chassis, but is there anyone with chassis plans or anyone local to me I could take some sizes of there chassis if there car is stripped down please .
I’d like to build a grantura for myself . I’d like to do it this way so that I can say I’ve built the whole car plus I can’t afford to buy a chassis out right . I’m a qualified welder and this is the way I can get on the scene .
Thanks for your time people hope there is someone who can help
Thanks
Nick

Hi Nick,
Where are you based?
A previous owner of my Grantura made his own chassis for it…not idea where/if he got plans for it, I think he just winged it… but a self build can be done for sure!
What parts do you have already? (Building one ground up might be more expensive than buying one as the parts are scare)
Regards
Andy

Hi Andy thanks for your replying I’m in the midlands don’t know If you are close ? Is your car stripped down at minute or they old photos ?
Hi haven’t collected much yet really just doing my research , I’d only do a mk1 with b series engine . A lot of running gear I read was Volkswagen suspension
Thanks
Nick

I’m in liverpool but those are old photos from the around 15 years ago when the guy made mine.
If you don’t have a base car then might not really be viable for you to do at a low cost to be honest. Mk1 and mk2 were vw suspension with the mk2 had b series engine.
This MK2 one was a load of spare parts and a v5 and it went for best part of £5k:

If you’re trying to build a from near scratch and want it to be authentic all the interior, glass, etc isn’t cheap to source (if you can even get some of it).
I guess it’s all relative to what you consider low cost as you may have a different perspective to me (as I’m tight)
Cheers
Andy

What’s the difference between the Grantura and vixen chassis ?
IMHO, you need to be asking the difference between a Grantura torsion bar 1/2/2a(as you mention VW) and then the Grantura MK3/Mk4,1800/1800s, then, moving to a Vixen S1 is the compromised (read cheaper) version of the Thurner designed 1800/1800S/Mk3/4. Which then becomes the LWB version Vixen S2/S3 (but not the Vixen S4 as that is the Bigland designed M series chassis).Added a link to ...https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TVR_Grantura
