Hello, I have been looking at my dads tvr 3000m turbo to try and get it on the road for summer.

It has been sat in storage for around 8 years or so.

I have drained the fuel tank and put fresh v power in, checked the oil (still golden) and engine turns freely with spanner on the crank.

After connecting a battery it turns over but doesn’t start. I think it is a fuel issue, my dad said before when it had been sat the fuel needed priming and someone sucked it through. I read after it’s sat the fuel runs back into the tank and then the pump won’t pick it up.

He can’t remember which hose it is but i found one that looked promising but no fuel came through.

On the image I have drawn a blue arrow to the pipe I sucked on. The red arrow points to a metal piece that has 2 larger metal pipes running into it, look like they come from towards the back of the car. It also has 3 plastic/rubber pipes on it, one of which is the one I sucked on.

Can anyone confirm if this is the fuel line, sucking on it air just kept coming through.

Any tips on other things I should check would be much appreciated.

Thomas

Not trying or mean to be rude, but, get someone who knows what they are doing to check it over and start it for you.

Pump petrol will NOT be good enough to run the car on anything but idle...the air box lid will need to be removed as ATM the gaskets within the box which normally run in an engine bay environment, on the TVR turbo, run in oil/air and IF you have an fuel leak it will fill the box and overflow into the cylinders...the reason that you cannot prime the fuel system is because the TVR diode system only allows the pump to run whilst cranking (the pump runs via the alternator), IMHO, do not remove the diode system.
IF you want to run the car to test it then remove the 2" outlet from the air box and remove the pop-off valve with cir-clip pliers, so that until everything has been checked and tested it runs as N/A car (EVEN at idle) add fuel to the float chamber directly...have a fire extinguisher to hand. DO NOT read pay attention to ANY TVR information/timing as NONE it would be relevant today (it is in reality from a period that the turbo would of had access to leaded 5* petrol). A@ ...Posted here to help, so as you do not do any damage...I will help if you need help, and I can help, but not on an open forum.

Adrian is the best person for this, definitely.

You also should consider checking over everything, brakes, fuel lines, electrics, tyres etc etc!

I would change all fluids and filters as a matter of course.

After some fantastic knowledge shared by Adrian we got the car fired up. There is an issue with the fuel pump, it’s making a crackle kind of noise so that is the next thing to look at.

Here is a picture of the car before we cleaned the dust off.
Still trying to sort the fuel pump issue, the old pump has a bad leak so will need to source a suitable replacement.

W.r.t 101 leaded, If you are not aware, Esso 99 has no alcohol, and if you top up with Tetraboost you have 101 leaded.

I regret to inform you that Esso have started putting Ethanol in thier 99, the chaps on the Aston Martin section have been discussing this.
