Under body colour?
Discussion
Hi, just getting ready to paint under the body shell. I like my Griff, grey/white chassis against a black tub. Vixen will be black chassis against something. It was mostly unpainted, so black against fibreglass. Black against black leaves no contrast so you can’t see all the effort that went into the chassis! Paint tub grey?

You're right with black on black. Mine is this and the effort doesn't get highlighted. I'm happy with it 'cause I know what's gone into it and I don't really care whether others do.
But grey underside.... not so sure
How about body colour or even body colour plus a bit of added black mixed in to give a darker shade of body colour but still with sufficient contrast to the solid black chassis ?

Oh no... this could be turning into a 'best' Vixen colour thread again. So true to form (obviously green cars are fastest) but Vixen's always seem to look good in blue(s).
My favourite looking Vixen is a beautiful midnight solid blue owned by a chap in / around Cheshire. It is stunning but unfortunately I can't find a photo.

The underbody of my Grantura is painted black, however, the chassis tubes are bonded in the body and therefor not visible.
Visible chassis tubes are light grey but I found silver and also green (like the upper body) paint under the current paint.
I would assume they used black protective underbody coating than which is the usual color for this.

+1 - No problem for me using black Plastidip Hard Coat.
In fairness I only gave the underside a jetwash followed by a quick light sanding by hand. Then brushed 2 to 3 coats on. So considering it was minimal prep it turned out OK. Certainly no brush strokes visible and more than good enough for the areas I don't see.

I like black in the wheel arches, because any other color there is not fine, see example.
the grey there... its such nice Griffith 200

so yes, black there is welcome, but under the car what is not visible if you walk around it, could be nice in another color, maybe the car color or something else, not black, black hides to much, dark world... you want to see how the lack holds, not hide in black there.
although most cars are black under, thats also for some reason... some perfect restored cars were also pride under the car, say in car color or something else.

Hi. Plasti coat works with a 4 inch roller. I had to try three rollers before I was happy, used an emulsion roller in the end. The grey is not wildly different to the raw fibreglass colour, so quite subtle. Only thing to note, took 6 coats! Roller very quick to coat so no hardship. Gives a pleasing light texture which masks the crappy fibreglass fixes…
