Hi - I am starting work on my new acquisition (1976 3000M). The starter clicks but doesn't spin. The car has been off the road since 2013. Newish battery seems OK. Earth & positive feed to the starter ok. I want to get the starter out to bench test it. It seems like the starter has to come upwards after removing the exhaust manifold due to not enough clearance from below.
I have removed the manifold bolts but dont have enough clearance to lift it up and out to get proper access to the starter bolts.
Do I need to jack the engine up to increase clearance or is there a better way.
Appreciate any advice.
Thanks, Jim

I had to Jack up the engine slightly to remove the standard starter on my M, then fish it out from the top.

It gets bloody hot there too, make sure you wrapped it well in heat shield when you refitted.
