Hi all.

With these classic TVR's having a jobs list as long as your arm it gets a bit overwhelming sometimes. So one job at a time. The rev counter on mine does work but jumps all over the place. Ive googled it a few times and need to spend some time on fixing that one problem before I move onto the next.
Does anyone have any advice on this to help me out? I would like to sort the problem out myself.

Thanks.

The rev counter in my Vixen S3 is a Smiths RVI 2417/00. It failed a few years ago from an internal short, so a different problem to yours by the sounds of it.

It was repaired by JDO Instruments. Steve Sayers was very helpful - definitely worth a chat with him about your issue and see what he suggests. However don't get pushed into an un-necessary upgrade as I was. It caused the needle to jump all over the place (sound familiar?) and I ended up having to have it de-upgraded to get it to work properly again.

Is your car still using contact breakers or has the Ignition been changed to Electronique.
If it's Electronique depending on what was used the Rev Counter can need to be modified.
Eg. RVI or RVC.
If you use a "Hall effect" Simonbloc you don't need to modify Rev Counter.

If you are running electronic ignition rather than the original stuff then this is the man to talk to, I found him excellent to deal with...

I'm running 123 ignition and this solved my problems with a jumpy tachometer. He will be able to help with other electrical niggles and his prices are very reasonable. I spoke to him at length about stuff that would be of no financial gain to him but he was happy to advise me.

Well this was a very easy fix in the end. Back of the dial is a simple adjustment screw. Ive got one of them Gunston emission testers with a rpm setting. I just matched them up.
