There is currently this Grantura for sale with modified wheel arches (front and rear) I have never seen before: https://www.pistonheads.com/buy/listing/13640169

I wondered what the reason for this modification was: bigger or wider wheels?

There was a race Grantura offered some years ago also with modified wheel arches, however, a different styling: https://bridgeclassiccars.co.uk/shop/1962-tvr-gran...

yes, seen that for a long time on cars and classics , they had some nicer pictures for the color, I liked it and again not...
the cutout is way to high (for street) or springs so soft it needs it? anyway, not that nice, otherwise it would have been nice.

btw they state it as a mk3 grantura, but it has the mk2-ish rear, I rather like the normal mk3 rear, there is also a mk3 for sale on cars and classis, but that one changed the mk3 for a vixen s3 look aaaargh

ah, its still for sale there but 45k instead of the 36k :-) the pictures are alo there, take a look, some I say wow nice, others not so (high cut out)

the other one I've never seen before, that old racer, also 'strange' but different.

It may well have been done to cater for bigger wheels. But it's ungainly appearance would probably be improved greatly by just fitting a set of full profile tyres onto the existing wire wheels. An 85 profile should fill the wheel arch quite nicely. Also fitting a spacer may have a positive result aesthetically.

yes you could improve things a bit, wheelspacers, but still sadly they made the cut at least 5-7cm or so to high, stil a nice car though.
if it was like the front same tire/flare space, it would be a 'winner' :-)

I saw this car in person yesterday.

The wheel arches were done like that at the request of the long time owner, who'd also had a boot hatch fitted at one stage.

The car has had a small fortune spent on it and is done to a very high standard.

I saw this last week too, I have to say I didn't think the arches looked abnormal (not that I'm familiar with the Grantura) but they didn't look like an afterthought. They probably look worse in the pics as they're taken from a lower perspective where I was mostly looking from close up/above. It did look in very good order for a car of this age. I presume a metallic paint wouldn't have been standard back in the day.

I have seen the car when I purchased my 55 Notchback and I have to say that this car is restored to a very high end. The modifications are not my cup of tea but they are professionally done. Color is great.
