Hello Guys,

Wanted to go for a smal dive today and experienced that I cannot press in the clutchpedal. A week ago it stil functioned.

I haven't been under the car yet, but is it cable operated? What could it be?

I have no idea what has gone wrong but yes it is cable operated

(have you never checked your fluid levels?)

I am going to check it tomorrow. Maybe the cable is jammed. Haven't checked the fluid yet.

Not a problem I’ve encountered, but, there are no fluids to check on the cable operated clutch.

I would start by checking nothing is stopping the actual pedal movement.

Take the cover off under the bonnet disconnect the cable and check the pedal movement with the cable disconnected.
If that’s ok, reconnect the top cable, disconnect the cable from the thrust bearing lever arm at the bellhousing and inspect the cable.
It is possible if it’s been loose and been up against the exhaust the outer cable has melted and trapped the inner cable.

If the cable is operating ok the trouble is with the lever arm, which may have come off its pivot and jammed or the thrust bearing may have stuck to the shaft.

You may be able to refit the lever arm back onto its pivot without taking the bellhousing off.

If it’s the thrust bearing on the shaft, which I think is unlikely, I would just try ant tease it loose.

Have you checked your shoe draw, if you find lots of left shoes your leg might be missing.

The clutch Cable can touch the Exhaust Manifold and melt .
If you fit a new Clutch Cable make a small Bracket to hold it away from the Exhaust Manifold. The small Bracket fits to one of the Sump Screws (fit a longer Screw to allow for Bracket thickness).

Yes, the point I was trying to make, anyone who does basic under bonnet checks once in a while would have realised there is no clutch fluid reservoir!

I had the block earth strap come off and the engine was earthing through the accelerator cable. Only realised when I floored it out of Paddington station and the pedal stayed on the floor as the cable lining had melted.

haha.....yes.... there should be no fluids. I started googling, but I actually found companies selling clutch master cylinders....

I'll have a look tomorrow. Thanks for the step by step fault diagnosis....

Cable snapped, Clutch arm pulled through on Bellhousing end, Clevis fork on top of clutch pedal has slackened and flipped back on itself..

The Hydraulic Type 5 Gearbox on the M series is much much better wink

Did you manage to find out what the problem was?

I did find it. Surprisingly I could push in the pedal. But it didn't feel normal. It was my father who called me that the pedal was jammed when he tried to start/drive the car.

So, I jumped in the pit to look underneath. There I found that the cable had too much play and that the end of the cable was not seating right. It was almost out of the fork. Cable adjusted. Made a testdrive and everything is okay. Great cars.

Nice one, glad it was nothing serious.
I leave about 6mm gap between the lock nuts and the bell housing case with the cable slack.
