Hi,having a good look round new car .Tailgate refuses to unlock. Can hear solenoid clicking but won't release tailgate .Is it a crawl inside - remove trim to access ?? Could it be a poor ground ,electric aerial not budging either .Is there a common ground bolt on the chassis at the rear ??thanks dave

Hi Dave, experienced the same many years ago....found that I needed to keep the "bullet" (moving part) clean, polished & lubed.
Another Taimar owner showed me his "manual system" which I adapted & fitted to my car.
Attach a cord to top of latch arm, feed this through a ferrule (sailing deck bush) which I bonded into drivers side corner of tailgate adjacent to trim panel & attach a pull handle. I also attached some 3mm dia bungee to the pull cord inside tailgate in order to ensure the pull handle is fully retracted against tailgate.
Hope this description makes sense.
Good luck MikeS

Try having a friend push down on the hatch while you push the button repeatedly. Some pressure and wiggling while the solenoid goes might do it. Otherwise if you take the trim off you can pull it free.

If the solenoid is working, it could only be the cable which pulls the lock open I would say. I changes my cable and solenoid 2 years ago.

Had the same problem with my Taimar. The solenoid seemed to have lost power. Bought a new solenoid kit from Ebay. Fitted in the car OK but still lacked the power to release the tailgate. The original solenoid was made by Williams Shirley Birmingham but this company no longer exists. There isn't enough of the label to read the spec. Probably not surprising as it is 43 years old.
Can anyone suggest what solenoid would work? In the mean time I am using a manual cord pull.
