After a 15 year rebuild, my 1973 2500M is finally back on the road. I had it MOTd just to get an independent check on basics, and had no advisories.

It feels great to drive it again, although having originally bought it during a mid life crisis, it takes a wee bit more effort to get in and out of now!!

The one area that I'm not happy with is the rear suspension which is too solid for my liking. I didn't replace the rear shocks but now wish to do so. Any recommendations on these? I presume its TR6 stock. Front suspension has poly bushes and spax adjustables, otherwise everything else is standard.

Regards
Jim

Whilst the driveshafts and brakes are TR6 the suspension wishbones are TVR's own design so I would suspect the shocks are nothing to do with a TR6?

Do they just need some softer springs?

Are the shocks adjustable for firmness?

Also worth checking the wishbone / chassis bolts are not over tight and stopping movement.

Before investing in new springs and shocks.

As phillpot has alluded to the shocks are not TR6 items as the rear suspension is totally different and is designed and fabricated by TVR.

I have got Koni Classic adjustables on mine (set to the softest setting). I do not know if they still make them but if not they will have replaced them with something similar - I'm sure that they will advise you if you contact them.

I also agree with GAjon - make sure that the wishbones are not over tightened and that the wishbones move freely. :-)

Spot on guys!
Many thanks.
Is there a recommended torque setting for the nuts?
Cheers

Hi Jim,

I haven't got a torque setting for you - mine are just 'nipped up' with new nylocs with a bit of medium threadlocker as belt and braces!

If you put your back end on axle stands, remove the wheels and put a jack under the hub assembly you can then remove the shocks and use the jack to see how freely your suspension moves.

If you are going to remove the bolts you could also consider using philidas nuts instead of nylocs as they are reusable.

Good luck!
