Hi,
I am rebuilding a Caterham 1700 Supersprint for my S3 Vixen and wonder if anybody on here can help? I want to know which valve stem seals Caterham used where the valves have double springs, as what I have removed are nothing like what are in the gasket set?
Also I have no idea what amount of oil to put in the engine at the end of the rebuild as Caterham increased the sump capacity and fitted internal baffling but I started with an engine already drained of oil and with a dipstick that had slipped down the rubber tube it was mounted in, so have no reference. Any ideas please?

original ford valve-sem seals where those loose-fit umbrella-type.

they theoretically could move up and down together with the valve, protecting the valve guide (original ford spec just drilled into the casting of the head) from a massive amount of oil...but letting enough oil left for lubrication.

Burtons have stem-seals for double-springs:

Volkswagen Golf seals fit as well

oil-capacity: a good starting point is around 4L
pay attention that ford used different length of dip-stick tubes and hence also different dipsticks in combination.
