Has anyone fitted LED Headlamps yet. At "pnmparts.co.uk" they have 7" Units either silver or black surround for £132 incl vat a pair ref: PNMM9015.
They have a flat beam and use a 1/3 of the normal power.

I have fitted LED headlamps to my S2 Vixen, as the old Cibie ones had started to cloud, and my ageing eyes were starting to struggle to see well at night !
The ones I chose after much research were EEC ones that we regularly fit to Land Rover Defenders . Its important that they are E Approved, I see and fail lots on MOT because they have incorrect beam patterns and are poorly made.

They are not to everyones taste, and the rivet counters will baulk at how they look fitted to a classic car, but for me being able to drive safely at night is more important than looking correct.

Its wise to point out that LED bulbs are next to useless and dangerous when retrofitted to existing lamps. all that is achieved is a very bright light with no beam pattern at all. Dont waste your money.

Maybe the LED Headlamps are better on my Lotus Elan Sprint because they are hidden except when i need them at night. Also still running with Generator and pull less current.

E-approved does not automatically mean they are road approved, neither that they dont blind other motorists....which is extremely dangerous for the others.

LED and xenon Lamps are subject to self leveling and washing system, thats why modern cars , which are fitted with such lamps from the factory, have those systems...its mandatory by law.

now ask yourselves: does your car have those features?

sorry LLant but the main reason for being blinded is the fact that the dip beam has not been set up MECHANICALLY first. Even main dealer types think auto levelling will correct badly adjusted lamps. How many times (a day!) are you blinded by almost new cars with self levelling etc. Modern replacement LED lamps for H4 / H7 etc. give the correct beam pattern and if set up correctly will give enhances lighting and NOT blind oncoming cars.

The LED Headlamps have the APPROVAL needed as stated in the Club Lotus Magazine and by PNM NO PROBLEM.

if they dont have the correct beam pattern they can have as plenty of E-Marks as they want...they would not be legal.

judging the price they might be legal....any prove of the beam pattern?

It is not a fail if the beam pattern does not have the 'kick up' kerb side beam - should not have a centre road kick up though.
A flat beam cut off is fine.

The MoT manual also states : A ‘light source’ means any bulb, LED or other means of emitting light.
