With my 2 TVRs they both have "K and N" Filtres but NOT the same size.
On the 3000M it is 1 cms higher than on the 3000S which to me is a very big difference.
I can see why on the 3000S it thinner because of the Bonnet height. Surely the breathing capacity is not the same and should be reflected in different Jetting of Carb.
How is the height/thickness of the "K and N" calculated or do people just guess.

Alan, in the past I have used K&N's catalogue (presumably now on their website?) to select a custom air filter as it states sizes, flow rates and 'bhp-ability' for any given filter.
You may find the the smaller of your two flows more than sufficient for the engine's needs and the larger one is just overkill.

I would have thought the air box was the same height on the 3000M and the 3000S. The air box on my 3000S and Scimitar are the same height and the K & N filters are both the same size. If it was not as high then the air would go over the filter and not through it.

Edited to say I just realised you must have done away with the original air box. When got my 3000S many years ago it had a separate K & N fitted and the car would suffer from icing for 6 months of the year so I put a K & N in the original air box as I had done on the Scimitar and it cured the icing problem.

Hi Nige,
sorry i should have explained better.
On both cars it's K and N complet Filtres. There is no original Air box. They are the ovale chrome box with filtre inside.
On the 3000m it is 1 cms higher/thicker than on the 3000S.
I wondered why people fit these and remove the original Air box. Maybe for some "Bling"

Hi Alan

You're probably correct about them being fitted for bling.

I used to get terrible carb icing on the 3000S when I drove it to work in the morning between October and May. Nothing worse than you're throttle sticking wide open after a fast blast and having to switch off and wait 5 mins for the carb to de-ice. Soon as I managed to fine an original filter housing and put a K & N inside it the problem was solved smile

I tried that with the Tuscan - apart from being a pia to route, it didn’t fit the carb so I made an adapter plate. Got it in position and found it was too high for the bonnet by 1/8”. Like the look of the RAM filters but they’re also too tall.
Reverted to Plan B: left as was.

I reduced the height by 6mm because the bonnet on a 3000S is lower than on a 3000M.

That's strange because on my 3000M the "Bling" K and N is 1 cms higher than what was on the 3000S and clears the Bonnet easily.
The height of the Bonnet on a 3000S is a lot lower than on a 3000M.
