Hi, the tinkering with my 3000M continues ! If the engine is sat running (Ford V6 Essex) there is a ringing noise but I can’t find where it’s coming from ?? I wonder if it’s from the alternator but can’t be sure ?? It’s a strange constant ring and it’s at a wavelength that gets right in my head !?!!! Any ideas what it is or where it maybe coming from.. squirts of WD 40 or drops of oil on various parts have NOT done the trick !! Any ideas or guesses will be greatfully received?? Thanks for now, Gavin.

Have you tested if it’s still there when you press the clutch?

Water pump or idler pulley? Check The bearings for play when you’ve got the belt off.

Have you fitted a T9 Gearbox.
On my 3000S i have a T9 Gearbox and the original Gearbox Support was touching the Bellhousing making a noise.
I got a special Gearbox Support from Adrian to fix it.

If yours is an Essex V6 how did you get the hydraulic clutch to work, plus out of interest the original gearbox mount should be nowhere near the bellhousing?

Turns out the ringing noise is air being drawn in through the oil filler cap, remove the cap and noise stops instantly !?!! Now a bigger problem has arisen, suddenly a rumbling noise has started on the free running top pulley, it was perfect until I removed the fan belt and tried to align this pulley with the others, I’ve had to close the workshop doors and walk away as there is no reason for this to suddenly happen!!! Having a day or 2 away from tinkering!!

Hi Gee Boo,
i think when the free running Pulley was not inline with the others the Fan Belt was pulling it to one side and took up the play = no noise.
If you want to change the Bearing in the free running Pulley(jockey wheel) i think you need to remove the Front Case. To press the Bearing/Shaft Assembly.
Alan
ps for "T9" i've started another thread

Hi ya all! I’m back again, sorted the problem with the top pulley as it was knackered so have bypassed it and all is good in the world !! I will attach a few photos of how my clutch slave cylinder showing how it attaches to the bell housing (as plastic pig was asking how was it done ) !!

Using a shorter Fan Belt and Bypassing the Jockey Wheel means a long distance with no support.
Does the Fan Belt flap about or touch the Casting where the Jockey Wheel is.
