Hi.

This may not be of much help but here goes.
We fit Sterling Security ‘toad’ Excel immobilisers to the car she build.
The last batch seem to have issues which we can only guess is within the immobiliser unit consisting potentially of ‘sticky’ relays that actually control the circuit isolation.
We have found that rapid on and off of the ignition whilst holding the transponder in a close enough
Position to trigger helps the thing decide to trigger correctly.
Another way we have used this technique is the flick the battery isolator on and off to cause the same effect.
The problem is worst from new commission and seems to settle over use which is why the ‘sticky’ theory.
The supplier has been useless with support really as they will not admit anything is wrong rather the problem is with the setup. However having fitted about forty of the things I can’t see that being likely.

So my suggestion Is to try and rapidly trigger the thing or maybe give a voltage boost with some sort of jump that could help those relays wake up.

Of course my experience is pretty specific to one system which is not necessarily what you have but I did say it might not be of much help.

Good luck..

Sorry, can’t be any use to you, but this is an aftermarket problem , not TVR M specific.
I’d look what your system is and see if they have a web page or problem forum.

My 3000S had an alarm when i bought it and the first thing i did was remove it.
I prefer to use a bar that locks on steering wheel.

My 280S had a Toad fitted. It took five minutes to remove, which makes me wonder why they were fitted in the first place!

Hit the nail on the head

A hidden switch achieves the same as an immobiliser and will be less prone to failure

Thanks all for your reply’s! Turns out the immobiliser wasn’t the issue but a distraction and the problem was the relay and a poor connection, all this was sorted by a good friend living close by !

Hi Gee Bo,
sorry but could you tell me what Relay was no good.
Was it a Relay in the Alarm Wiring Circuit or some where else.
Thanks in advance
Alan
