Griffith 200 Steering Wheel
Discussion
Hello,
I hope I'm in the right area.
I'm looking for anyone that might have specs on the original steering wheel from a Griffith 200 (same as the Grantura?). To begin with, what is the outside diameter of the original wheel? Also, what is the diameter of the bolt pattern for the steering wheel to hub connection?
Better yet, does anyone have one for sale?
Cheers, John

If it is the same as the Grantura one then there are a few around, but very rare. I haven't seen one for sale for several years.
All that said, they might have come from something else or be modified versions of a wheel for a different car
I did see this

some one got a complete bargain!!!
edited to add:
I remembered that there was a discussion of this a while back and dug through what ai remembered. It seems the wheel for Granturas is a modified Standard Vanguard item. It looks like it uses a different horn and a branded indicator with in the middle. It might even be that another Standard car uses the identical wheel

Rob--yes, you are correct. That's the wheel, and the one I'm missing. I had someone refurbishing mine, and he died in the meantime. It's been a year, so I don't think I'm going to recover the wheel, so I need some basic dimensions so I can build a replacement. It's been so long that I don't remember exactly how it looked.

Hi
Griff 200 wheel is definitely different to the Grantura.
Just about to start making one for mine. I have all the original dimensions plus an original wheel. (15" od x 13.5" id).
Not sure if you had the same issue with your original wheel, but the thickness of the aluminium of an original wheel is 1/8". Mine tends to bend (forwards to back), somewhat when cornering and putting pressure on the wheel. My copy will be very slightly thicker.
Since all aluminium mills roll to metric thicknesses, I'll be opting for 4mm thick plate rather than 3mm. (It is likely that the thickness will be nearer 3.8mm thick as mills roll to bottom tolerance BS).
Will be having mine laser cut at work as soon as we are able to get back in ……………. had to send everyone home earlier today per Govt Covonavirus requirements.
Happy for you to pm me and I'll send across the CAD drawing I've had done.
Cheers
David

David,
Yes, that would be awesome if you could send me your CAD drawing!
And yes, the original wheels are very flexible--not sure why they made them so thin. My guess is that the bend in my steering wheel is from people using it to lever themselves in and out of the car. When the steering wheel is centered, the wheel is noticeably bent to the side.
