Griffith 200 / Grantura Seat Restoration
Discussion
I am restoring my Griffith 200 seats (which I believe are similar to a later Grantura seat as well). During disassembly I discovered a piece of cut out plywood in the lower section of the seat cushion. My assumption is that it is not original to the seat and someone placed it in the bottom of the cushion to support the seat because the webbing was completely stretched out...but I wanted to make sure before I threw it in the bin. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Does the bottom portion of the seats (with the plywood piece) connect to the bottom seat tube frame in any way? Or does it simply sit on top of the steel tube frame? Any idea as to the purpose of the seat being removable...to aid in securing it to the floor of the car?

Your seats are the same as mine in construction but the seat pattern is not the same. You have more pleats than I do. From what I've heard the seat style that we have had a tendency for the seat bottoms to slide forward. I including a picture from a couple other owners car that show how they stopped the seats from sliding forward. The seat with the lip brazed to the front of the seat pan frame may be correct because it came from a Griffith 400. Hope this helps.
