I'm planning to remove the diff so I can install a Quaife ATB. I have a removable panel in the rear parcel shelf floor but would prefer not to remove the rear glass. How difficult is it to remove from below the car or can it come out through the side if I remove the wishbones with upright?

It's a Spitfire diff.

It's quite easy. Take off drive-shafts and prop shaft. Remove rear silencer. Undo diff mounting bolts and wriggle the diff sideways and downwards.

Bang on. Got it down to a fine art here, helps to take the upright top bolt out too though!

Excellent. That sounds straight forward.

Another question. Quaife are saying not to drill a drain hole in the diff as should never need to change oil and the casing is too thin to tap . This makes sense but goes against my orginal plan. And I do like the idea of refreshing oil regularly even if it's just to check for any early signs of wear in components.

At the lowest point there’s easily enough meat to put a drain plug in. We used a small black iron plumbing plug and it went in a treat.

You may even get away without touching the uprights at all, unless of course you you want to take both off like Andrew.

Great. I’ll drill a drain hole then. Seems daft not to when it can be done
