My workshop tells me that the fan bearing is reallly hard to remove. He has been spraying WD40 for a couple of days now, but it hasný moved. Is there a trick to get it out better?

I thought there is a hole at the bottom of the blind hole. Which means you can press out from the back.
If there's no hole maybe you can drill it from the back. Then you can use a drift from the back to push it out.

Or get a complete cover from eBay for less than 30 quid? There’s plenty about.

If you can get an early cover, the fan bit is slightly further offset. You can then cut it off completely and do away with bearings.

There won’t be anything to cut off in the old position because as you say the early cover has an offset fan/bearing.

Mill it all off, drill and tap for a flush cover plate then switch to an electric fan biggrin
