Afternoon Gents,

Following the news that the "letter box" bonnet mould no longer exists (if it ever did) i'm keen to look for a inexpensive replacement to take the car on track.

Not concerned about condition, its just to fulfil the bear essential functions of a bonnet.

Any pointers much appreciated.

Best, Finn

Since when has it not been available... I have a mould that can create all 6 M Series bonnets ...HOWEVER, from a cooling point of view even the factory created a additional screw-on mould to convert the letter box to the later wide mouth bonnet. A@

Finn, I have taken off and cut up two bonnets in the last year..I have one that I am taking off a 3000M in the coming weeks (3 of my cars are having new bonnets with integral rear vents as SE's have) it would cost you the price of a new bonnet frame though, as the one that is in it needs replacing (and I would need to make that). Thank you Adrian !!

As ever delivering the goods.

I was informed by a good source but won’t name and shame.

The important thing to me is that a replacement is available should the worst happen. Now knowing that, another bonnet is no longer required.

Much appreciated, Finn

Finn,
Steve Dennis loaned me his and I took a splash molding from it, then I made a wide mouth bonnet lower half and retro grafted the earlier bonnet splash into that....it now gives me the ability to take a mould from that to create the earlier bonnet lower half that bolts onto the top face. All I would need to make one would be a picture of yours (so keep one!) so that the correct markers/vents (again, measure/pictures now) can be made AND NOTE that,on the early bonnets the top vents were actually used!!! with 1" molding/ducting right down the internals of the bonnet, to pipe air into the heater lid (which had an open top that the internal ducting compressed up to, with a foam seal, all bespoke and rarely seen, so IF you have that version take photos/measurements etc. (AND, AND send me them as I talk the talk, but back in the day, pre mobile phone/cameras, when I saw these cars...I thought I would see more than the couple I have ever seen).
