Vixen brake pads
Discussion
I fitted the mintex 1144s which I found to have much better bite than standard TR6 pads and work well even when very cold. Only problem is that they squeal under light braking without regular changing of anti-squeal tape on the back of the pad. Would be interested to hear how you get on with the Hawk pads.
By far the best I’ve fitted was Granada. Before I bought them I got two sets of original TR6 asbestos ‘under the counter’ from a well known dealer as he said they were the best you could get. Well the Granada are streets ahead it’s like having an additional servo! - and I think £25 a set....
In the end, based on advice from the Triumph supplier I decided to try the standard road going Mintex pads (1199). So far I'm disappointed with very little bite from cold. I've gone through the bedding in process multiple times but still poor. They do get better once they have heat in them. This is compared to previous pads which were Ferodo DS2000's.
I spoke with Mintex and they suggested going for their Classic pad using their MX4597 material - in between 1199 & 1144 with improved bite from cold. It seems odd to me that a standard road pad wouldn't work from cold ??
The trouble is that fewer pads are now made with the 1/4" holes so choices are very getting limited. It may be that I go back to Ferodo's and find a local machine shop to redrill the holes to suit the earlier imperial caliper pins.

Granada all the way here, bigger contact area too. Just redrill the holes to 1/4" with a cordless drill if they're smallerI spoke with Mintex and they suggested going for their Classic pad using their MX4597 material - in between 1199 & 1144 with improved bite from cold.
