Another job ticked of the list
I sent my spare set of hinges to Leigh Jones at Autobarn Engineering to re build the pins and bearings as my old ones where well past there sell by date and had been badly re built in the past.
Although the spare set where nearly new i wanted to future proof them so the normal issues with them would not arise.
Totally delighted
He can do a rebuild kit however i decided to let him do the whole thing i went for 3mm head as there is plenty of clearance on my box however i believe he will be doing 2mm. just in case as there is probably variations and you dont want to damage the paint fitting them.

Stop plates still to do but delighted to have them done

Hi Alan both my other cars have different methods on the Tuscan they ones that came off had been drilled and tapped to fit a bolt that could be adjusted to create a stop not something i would do.
I have an original Anglia stop Plate which i am making to the same pattern but with some adjustment in for my car most owners will already have something done to theres to suit the TVR application

On my 3000m i made a plate to go vertical between the top and bottom Hinge retaining set screws like on my 3000s.
I didn't want the Door to open too far and damage the Body.

normally they are something like this

that are bolted across the mounting bracket

they come in a couple of different forms, this one has curved ends, but I have also seen flat ones. There is only one per side mounted, usually, on the top hinge

These look great, the only thing I was wondering what stops the pin rotating in the steel bracket and wearing the holes? Are they an interference fit into the steel bracket?

Not trying to be picky, it's just that mine have no wear on the aluminium, just the holes in the bracket where the pins have rotated.

With the grease bearing and the stainless pin which is a tight fit they move on the pin.
An interesting link here as well some cars at least one of mine have the bracket still there to add these if i wanted i wonder did this TVR owner succeed in modifying his.

Thanks for clarifying

Adding the spring seems like a good plan, I did wonder what those extra holes on my brackets were for!..

Not so sure i would add them Tim a nice idea but may well add stress to the frame and door that long term may create issues.

Imho you need to fit the check plate or the Door will open too far and hit the Bodywork.
On my 3000M i fitted a check plate on the top Hinge of each Door before my Car went to the Paint Shop. So after painting i didn't open the Doors too far and damage the new Paint.

Do you know what original fastening method was used on the inside of the door jamb to accept the hinge bolts? My Vixen just has a nut with a fender washer, but the washers get all bent up because the surface is uneven. Seems like there must be a better system.
Thanks, Paul
