5 Speed conversion TVR Taimar
Discussion
I've just bought a Taimar in the USA and I hope everything will go alright with the transport. Meanwhile I was thinking and dreaming about improvements..
I understand that there are 2 (?) ways of getting a 5 speed in? Ford T9 V6 2.8 box or a Mazda RX8?
Ijn case of the Ford box....does it need to have a mechnical connection for the tacho? That question goes for the Mazda too.... With a couple of bores and some machining, the Original bellhousing should be oke? Flywheel and clutch also?
I am sure this has been on the forum various times....
Personally I would prefer Ford, because I would stay with Ford mechanics in a TVR. But I am open to ideas....
Thanks

A Type 9 doesn't bolt straight to an Essex you'll need an adapter plate or custom bellhouse.
Loads of info here:

I don't know what chassis mods if any you'll need to do.

Adapter plate here, seems the best (possibly only) one available. Fairly simple installation and you need any heavy duty type 9 I would suggest speaking to BGH Gearboxes

I have a RX8 gearbox in a 3000M but the gear lever will then be to far behind you. Without a linkage you can not select a gear.
