I was at our big Car Expo at Lorient Brittany last W/E.
I had a chat with a French friend on the TVR Stand who has a 1965 Griffith 200 (lucky man).
He's having lots of problems to find good Spark Plugs that run well with the 4.7 ltrs V8 with about 350 bhp.
The modern plugs he has tried don't run correct and the Electrodes seem to burn out. They don't seem to have enough meat.
So what Plugs are you lucky owners of Griffiths using.

Hi Alan,

No experience with the 289 v8 specifically.
But I usually try to run NGKs as I've had the least issues with them on several cars.

You don't say what mods the engine has, 350hp suggests modified as they only have just over halve that amount as standard.
Standard would be NGK APR5FS, but if tuned in any way or he likes to boot it I would go one grade colder; NGK APR6FS
Not an expensive plug, under 2UKP each.

If the car has aluminium heads, he will probable need a different plug.
-Ask/search on a US forum as they will have more experience with them.

Thanks Fred,
i'll pass the info on and try to get some more details on the Engine.
He does like to boot the Car and already has a Tuscan Challenge to do the Circuits here in France.
His name is Christophe Laberty and the other Driver is Wilfried Moan

Hi Alan,
I changed my spark plugs from the often in the US recommended Autolites to now NGK's type nr 2460 BKR5ES. I run alloy heads and the same power as your friend but using a Ford 302. Running fine. I am not running a conventional dizzy but a distributerless ignition system.

Keep in mind BKR5ES is a completely different plug and won't physically fit in a 289 iron head; it's 14mm vs 18mm for the APR6FS.
If the OP's 289 has alu heads they may no longer have the iron heads 18mm thread.
An 18mm spark plug thread is not something you come across often.

The FiA Griff's tend to run NGK AP7FS so the AP6FS sounds like a good starting point.

I just looked on the net and they talk about "K" Code and Autolite BF-42 spark plugs (306 bhp) 289 cubic inches.

Autolite BF-42 is equivalent to the NGK AP5FS
Unfortunately not very easy to get in Europe, at least I didn't find any, or they were sold out.
