I've just purchased a right hand drive 2500M in black after many years of looking (not very hard).

It's MOT'd and in ok condition but I'm treating it as a project and a keeper. It has not history though which I find very odd.
It was traded against a new car, which again seems very unusual so I wondered if anyone out there knows the car and could help me build up some history on it.

Well done,
maybe a few photos may help and where it was bought eg. north, south, devon, Hampshire who
First registered 1st Jan 1971 Which could mean it has been reregistered because a "K" plate should be from 1st August 1971!!!!!!!

I've just bought it in Northamptonshire and it was registered in June 1972 according to the V5, hence K plate.

I don't have any good pictures yet but will share some when I get it.

Very nice, they always look good with chrome bumpers and bonnet side vents.

I looked on the GOV.UK website check mot history where it says first registered on 1st Jan 1971.
Also last mot 26 April 2018 with 54,765 miles. Maybe it had a private reg and then was re-registered with the "K" plate which is about period correct.
For a small sum you can request from DVLA the history of past owners which will help you with it's past.

I hope you can find history on your car

"K" registration is from the 1st Jan - 31st Dec 1971 and the DVLA will no longer supply you with previous owners I'm afraid.

Thanks Nige,
you're right.
I thought the new regs started on 1st August. That must have changed in 1967 where there is "E" and "F". I know people used to wait for 1st August to have the latest reg to flash off.

Hi, I viewed that car while back down in London. Was probably 2 years ago (at least). The owner responded to a wanted ad which I had placed. Very nice chap, there had been a bit of a saga with the car whereby it was having quite a bit of recommissioning work done at distance & I think there was quite a difference in opinion. He ended up getting the car back & had some other work done which got it to the condition I viewed it in. It was pretty much all there & ran well but was sat stupidly low with an exhaust which hung way lower than it should have done! It was pretty much undriveable where it was as the roads all had sleeping policemen! It had brand new leather seats & various other bits of trim redone but was a bit tired as was the Webasto roof. Engine was incredibly sweet though. It wasn't quite what I was looking for at the time (in retrospect I should have bought it as the early M is my fave body style). It was signiifcantly less than I have seen it advertised recently....I do think that is fairly reflective on how prices have moved for the classic TVRs in the last few years though. I ended up buying a V8 Vixen which needed a "couple" of jobs doing instead.....suffice to say that It has ended up as a fairly major project in itself....most likely no better than doing the black M!

What are your plans for it? Running resto? Probably best I didn't get it as it would have an LS3 in it now......

Cheers, Stew.

Yes, plan to restore. Hopefully get the chassis out and restore over the winter and aim to get it running again next summer. Then continue as a rolling restoration.
