Help needed! Buying a TVR Grantura 1800S ( Manx tail)
Discussion
I’m in the market for a fia app k racing tvr grantura 1800s. I found a really nice one that looks that it has been done in the right way.
The discussion wether the Manx tail is going to get the new http paper is still a mistery for me. Now the car comes with a app k / period F/ pre 66 / class GTS11 paper from 2010
The question is will i be able to get new paper from fia to race in the prep 66 class?
Love to hear from you guys, greetings Reinier

In my opinion the answer is no, you won't get papers with a Manx tail. You need a Mk3 round tail with the correct chassis.
Mark Ashworth raced a Manx tail for many years, the car has now been converted to round tail.
You need to talk to Nigel Reuben of Nigel Reuben Racing.

Nigel has recently restored an ex Sebring Grantura for a fellow countryman of yours, Jos Wymeersch.

Hi,
Many thanks for you’re reply. Just to let you know I have had contact with the ‘knaf’ in the Netherlands. The confirm you’re opinion on the Manx tail grantura.
This is a problem for many grantura owners how want to race them in a pre 66 group.
For me this is something to think of before buying a Manx tail grantura...
Thanks.

The Manx tail Grantura was Homologated on 1st July 1967 (see homologation form No. 237) so is not eligible for Peroid F.
For some years the FiA allowed the Manx tail but 2 or 3 years ago clamped down on this. So owners of Manx tailed cars could no longer race in Period F. Some like Mark Ashworth changed the body shape so they could continue racing.
The reverse has happened with FiA Griffiths which must have a Manx tail. Owners with the US Griffith 200 style round tail can no longer get papers.

Anton Keizer and David van Lennep (Gils' brother) entered an 1800s at an international meeting at Zandvoort in 1965. Unfortunately it practiced but didn't not race. However, you may be able to use this to help get an entry in NL but not FIA papers. I've been liaising with the archivist at Zandvoort and the 1800s also raced in 1966 but this is after the FIA period.
Is your car an original Dutch car I'm trying to find out which car Anton Keizer owned. David van Lennep is still with us and I think attends some historic meetings. He may have more history to help. It's a shame that 1800s are not FIA eligible as they did race in National / Club meetings in 1965 in the UK and NL.

Hi,
I'm researching TVR Grantura racing - can you please let me know a bit more about your Mk1. I may be able to check if I have any race details.
If you are interested in selling there is a Grantura Facebook page with 117 owners / members, if you want I could post a photo.,
Regards

Hi there
If it’s a white one with blue stripes then it’s my old car
It has certainly had a lot of money spent on it and we ran it at the Ring etc
I know a fair amount about getting papers for these cars
PM me for more info
Good luck
