So what have you got under your bonnet. I have removed the original black insulation under the bonnet because my 3000M has gone for a paint job.
Do i glue the original insulation back in place or leave it bare and hope the engine bay heat will not damage the new paint.
So what have your cars got boys and what is best.

I have no insulation under the bonnet but I have had my exhaust manifold ceramic coated and no problem since 40/45000km...

Fit a new one Alan.
Gives a nice finish and although it looks like the original its made from better fire proof material.

Andrew,
that looks neat i must say. On my car the original is in good shape.
The big question has anyone tried to attach the Bonnet Insulation a different way. That's to say with clips or pegs.
eg. threaded pegs bonded to the Bonnet then pegs pushed through Insulation and clips attached to hold in place.
Surely someone has tried a different method than gluing which is a bit risky

I have seen others use other materials Alan
Using your old one has its draw backs the material that was on the back generally has rotted or in places become detached from the outer layer.
Also the glue residue that is on the old blanket is exactly that old and impossible to remove.
Putting new glue on top of old does not seem to work well and mostly i have seen when done it soon comes off.
The cost of a new one is reasonable and done right with a fresh clean surface will work very well

Hi we're can I buy a new one and what sort of price are we talking ? , I was just going to use the alloy covered square ones that I've covered the inner bulk head with, they have strong glue, but if I can get a new one peice made for the job I'd prefer that .

Vixen didn't have an under bonnet quilt. also won't need one if you have full inner wheel arches :-) Nowt to stop you fitting one though smile

My vixen is fitted with ford Colone V6 , just afraid the heat off the two exhaust manifolds might damage new paint on bonnet . K

Although quite expensive, would ceramic coating of your manifolds be something to consider to help with under bonnet heat?

It of course comes with other benefits of improved exhaust gas flow and corrosion protection.
