Have TVR Engine Bays always been the body colour or is it only certain models.
This is one reason why i can't make a decision if i change the colour of my 3000M.
To paint the Engine Bay a different colour would be a difficult and very fiddly job.
One thing for sure i am not going down the rebuild road and stripping everything out of the Bay.
The body colour in the Engine Bay is in quite good condition and i the correct colour to paint where there are a few scrapes.
I imagine some of you guys have been in this position also

I painted mine matt black ..

Easy to repaint if it gets scratched and no repaint work to do if you decide to change the body colour (again)..

Yes,
i have had several Lotus Elans and the original colour is matt black.
That seems to be the way to go

Whereas we rally boys always choose gloss white... more reflected light for attending to those night time breakdowns... oh hang on, it's a TVR, you don't have those! wink

TVR headlights are so bad .. so never use mine at night, so no need for a white engine bay.

Back to your dilemma, Alan, repainting your engine bay in any colour be it black, white, sky-blue pink, or indeed Onyx Brun is going to involve the same tedious faff, which you quite understandably wish to avoid.
As you have said that, "The body colour in the Engine Bay is in quite good condition and i (have) the correct colour to paint where there are a few scrapes", surely the easiest solution would be to do just that, and attempt to love Onyx Brun as an exterior body colour. It can't be that bad or you wouldn't have bought it and lived with it thus far... wink

Hi Rik,
you're right, the more i think about how tedious it is to paint the engine bay the more i am starting to like Onyx Brun.
When i had my last Lotus Elan +2S130 i changed the colour from Lagoon Blue to Carnival Red and often thought i had blasphemed .
