Having more or less decided upon which gearbox to put in my Vixen project I have run into a set of questions. I have a 2000E 'box and the car is set up for a hydraulically actuated clutch. I have the right bellhousing, a master cylinder and actuation / pivot arm but not much else. I would like to know which clutch friction / pressure plate, release bearing and carrier and clutch slave to use.

I tried talking to the nice man at a well known Ford parts supplier and he simply asked more questions than I was able to answer! The clutch I need to replace is 7 1/2" dia but that is about the only answer to his many questions I can satisfy.

It's a M711standard 1600 motor.

You will need the longer bodied slave as fitted to the 1600E mk2. You will also see the shorter models around as fitted to Lotus mk1 cortina. You might have to make a push rod because I'm not sure these are available. You might be able to mod the mk1 lotus push rod which I think is still available. As for clutches, Just make sure you order an 8" 20 spline friction plate as plates for the type 9 box has 23 splines ( I think!). If you spec all the clutch parts for the Cortina mk2 1600E or GT you shouldn't go wrong.

If you're setup as hydraulic I thought that would be S2 not S3 but I also thought the 711M engine was only S3 not S2 ? (I could be wrong about this)

My S3 is a 711M and has the 2000e box but with cable clutch. If you need any info from my setup I can probably tell you if it is applicable.

I think it was a case of what TVR had at the time as my Vixen S3 has a 691M and 2000E box with a hydraulic clutch.

Nige,

If you have any info on your clutch system I'd be very grateful.

I bought the car as a project, at some point it lost its original engine and gearbox as a previous owner had decided to fit a V8. When I bought it, it had acquired a crossflow and Type 2 gearbox that didn't look that healthy. The car has a pedal box, bulkhead holes, etc. for a hydraulic system so I acquired a 2000E box initially just for the "correct" bellhousing. Having also acquired a type 3 'box along the way I had various options. As I said I've decided to go with the 2000E box but don't have all to bits to make the clutch work!

Phil.

My S3 is also hydraulic clutch. The whole bellhousing, gearbox, clutch and clutch actuation system is essentially lifted directly from the Cortina 1600E but will bolt up to a 711M block quite happily.

My S2 Vixen has been converted to cable clutch at some time in its life, possibly when the type 9 box was fitted. The set-up looks the same as my 1600M apart from the home-made cover.

What info do you require? The clutch, master cylinder and slave cylinder is from a MK1 Capri 1600GT or MK2 Cortina 1600GT. If you need any pictures let me know what you need and I will take some.
