British Racing Green
Discussion
What was the paint manufacturer / code for British Racing Green used by TVR back in 1972?
Going back to my Vixen / Tuscan days, I recollect that a few Lotus colours were used, but surely someone must have a comprehensive list.
IIRC there was a thread that covered Paint Codes far more comprehensively than the thread that is pinned to the top of this page. Anyone got a link?

My 3000M was resprayed "BRG" many moons ago by a previous owner and while researching this came across the following which may or may not be 100% correct (happy if anyone has better information :-) :
From Wikipedia:
"British racing green,or BRG, a colour similar to Brunswick green, hunter green, forest green or moss green (RAL 6005), takes its name from the green international motor racing colour of the United Kingdom. Although there is still some debate as to an exact hue for BRG, currently the term is used to denote a spectrum of deep, rich greens. "British racing green" in motorsport terms meant only the colour green in general – its application to a specific shade has developed outside the sport."
Seemingly, the TVR colours offered for the Vixen / Tuscan did not include BRG or any of the above as a standard colour.
Subsequently "TVR" British Racing has code TVR 0005 with paints by Deltron and Envirobase or in the 2K system British Racing Green with manufacturers codes of 8RF6B and KV51 but no TVR code.
Hope this helps

Thanks - it does help.
I used to have a Tuscan ( which went to France ) that was BRG, but much brighter than many that I've seen. Somewhere on line I saw that there are 179 different paint samples for BRG!
My M was painted BRG at the factory in 1972. Pics that I have of it show that it is quite a dull looking, dark finish - looks almost black in some pics. Having worked in the photographic industry, I appreciate that this could be a colour balance issue when printing, but I think not.
My records show that it was subsequently repainted Jaguar BRG, so it's possible that the owner at that point had managed to find out that that was the correct colour.
Unfortunately, during a later complete rebuild, the decision was taken to paint it Black. Looks great, but significantly detracts from originality, hence my looking for the correct colour prior to respray.

Mine was resprayed around 1996 and still wears the colour well today: a few small blisters now appearing but not enough to justify another respray. Although everyone else calls it "BRG" it is, in my opinion, slightly too dark and, no doubt, the "keep it absolutely original folk" will be along to say it should have been painted brown in accordance with its original Blackpool build sheet!!

That looks very nice, and certainly not too dark.Do you know what brand of BRG was used for the respray? I assume that the roof is black vinyl covered?
I'm just waiting for the delivery of Peugeot Onyx Brun ref: 1359 to see what it looks like compared to the different parts of the car that have been blown in at different times.
There are so many different browns that i would like to see what it should look like.
That is before i decide to keep original colour or change the colour.
I've ordered a 1 kg pot + 2k varnish + a 400 grm spray can.

Hi
Don’t know if this helps with the discussion or not. But this is the decision I came to with the help of my painter in order to get a period classic car colour on my 1961 TVR Grantura. The TVR was painted green but it had been painted another shade of green before in the distant past. The logbook was no help either it just said green!!
I believe it is a Jaguar BRG from the early 60s and it’s just the look I was looking for.

I feel your pain - I have a 911 that is at least 5 different shades of GP White! There are so many different browns that i would like to see what it should look like.

BTW, the useful list of paint colours that I remembered seeing before is on one of the Lotus Forums. That's where I found out that my previous Vixen was painted Colorado Orange, and there are a number of Lotus / Ford colours there that were used by TVR

The only knowledge I have is it was resprayed in 1996 when David Gerald (at Inkberrow) replaced the chassis and, unfortunately, in all the paperwork it just refers to it being resprayed below the roof. The roof is black vinyl, believed original and with the factory fitted sunroof, albeit the build sheet makes no reference to either of these. Perhaps someone who is more au fait with originality will come along and advise what was TVR base and what was customer specified optional extras? That looks very nice, and certainly not too dark.Do you know what brand of BRG was used for the respray?
