3000M fuel filler mod
Discussion
I have just fitted a MX5 non return in the fuel filler neck to stop fuel spills when Tank is full.
INFO FILLER MOD
I just thought some of you might be interested in an experiment I have just tried as I got a bit fed up with fuel spilling out if I filled my cars tank.
I have fitted a one way valve that is normally fitted into the filler neck of an MX5

As the OD of this is smaller than the hose and I needed a way of fixing it into the hose.
With the use of two ID reducers I fitted the assembly into the hose at the tank end and clamped it in position with a couple of jubilee clips.

Anyway it seems to work.
This is a common mod on Lotus Elan +2s

Is this the correct part Alan?
Non-return valve
Just taken the rear screen out to sort the fuel tank - might do this while I'm there as someone pointed out I was losing fuel when doing laps of Spa earlier in the year.

Yes thats the part. You will need to make up a reducer so it will just slide inside with outside dia to slide into the rubber filler neck hose.
I fitted mine just inside the filler neck hose before i pushed it onto the tank. That way it is as low as possible so you don't hit it with the petrol nozzle when filling up. You could put a hose clip around the filler neck hose to be sure it won't fall into the tank.
Make sure you fit it the correct way round or it will stop you from filling the tank.

I was told by scrutineers at Silverstone I need a no return valve in the tank neck of my 3000m, its an aftermarket foam filled tank but neck is similar, do you have a picture if it all assembled? INFO FILLER MOD

I only have the photos as above for my Lotus Elan +2.
I fitted the non return inside filler hose before sliding onto tank. I used rubber reducers to make up the difference between the inside dia of hose and outside dia of non return. This made it a tight slide fit in the hose. You can fit a hose clip on outside of filler hose to be sure it can't move.
I used 2 rubber reducers one inside the other slide on the outside dia of the non return valve. That made the total outside dia just right to slide inside the filler hose.
