Following the rebuild, the engine will be going back in shortly. So I'm looking to fit a new clutch kit.

Bearing in mind the car is a road car as well as for sprinting & hill climbing - any advice on which clutch kit would be most appropriate.

Engine is modified and developing around 120-130bhp.
Gearbox is a 2000e box with cable clutch

Burton offer 3 clutch kits - standard @ £80, Helix heavy duty and AP racing both approx £280. Is there a lot of difference as the price suggests?

DT seem to be offering Black Diamond units.

Any feedback would be good.

Believe the Helix clutch diaphragm is less harsh on the pedal due to an altered pivot point on the diaphragm fingers, was going that route on my Vixen once the current set-up wears out. Used an uprated one from Burtons years ago on my 1600M, was either in or out with nothing between, destroyed several diffs before I worked out why! Currently running a Lotus flywheel with 8 1/2" clutch on that with no problems. Geoff

That's useful info thx Geoff. Thought I may bump into you at Shelsley last weekend. Are you competing this year?

I used an AP heavy duty assembly when I rebuilt my vixen.
It does the job easily and copes with the Twin cam engine fitted. It is however a bit too heavy for everyday use. I have been experimenting with different slave cylinders to ease the effort a bit, so far a Range Rover V8 one is so much better. smile

Imho it's best to fit a standard Clutch if you drive the car on the road. It depends how you want to use the car.
On a Lotus Elan with 126 bhp the standard Clutch is nice and light to use.

That's the thing really. Although I will sprint & hillclimb it (road-going class) I don't want it to be hard work to drive as my everyday car. The existing clutch has always been fine, light and nice to use. But as I'm rebuilding the engine and therefore will fit a new clutch, I'm not sure whether to stick with standard or look for something that can cope with track driving.

I was considering the Helix clutch as it is able to cope with uprated engine power and higher revs, but it claims to be a more progressive engagement than other race clutches. But then I read a forum review which has put serious doubt in my mind.

Please be sure to get the Flywheel surfaced before you fit the new Clutch even if it looks good.
